Mike Schaefer (247 Sports/Huskers Illustrated): Part 2 / Shut Up Sipple

  • Thoughts on Scott Frost’s performance at B1G Media Days…what was the national perception you heard mostly?
  • Nebraska players through the board have gained a lot of weight–presumably mostly muscle–this offseason. Why were they so undersized in previous years?

With Scott Frost back in Lincoln, is Wisconsin the EASIEST team to prepare for on Nebraska’s schedule?

  • Wisconsin isn’t an option team, of course; but the way they operate to when Frost played at Nebraska is similar, so Frost should recognize most of the concepts he sees when studying them. Is this a major reach? Probably so, but who cares.
  • Also, SONG OF THE DAY: “Little Poor Me” – LAYTO

The amount of weight gained this offseason by almost every player makes you wonder if this team actually lifted the past few years

  • The media guide came out with listed rosters, and players like Jerald Foster gained 25 pounds since the last roster; Carlos Davis gianed 30 pounds; Brendan Jaimes gained 40 pounds; Ben Stille gained 35 pounds; and Daishon Neal gained 35 pounds. Heck, even Adrian Martinez gained 20 pounds. Will we be able to see a stronger and more fit team off the bat?

Sip is back from Chicago…what were his biggest takeaways from his time at B1G Media Days?

  • Scott Frost was the star, with all the national writers praising his words and every move, the first time that’s happened at Nebraska in a loonnnnnggggggg time
  • Did anything he said alarm you at all? And Joel Klatt came on with Happer in Chicago and said he thinks Nebraska’s ceiling under Frost is what Oregon did under Chip Kelly—to the tune of a 46-7 record. You’d take that in a heartbeat, but do you see it the same way?

Sean Callahan (Husker Online) / Shut Up Sipple

  • Overall impressions of Scott Frost at B1G Media Days…is he being too brash or not?
  • Do you like the way Frost is handling the locker room with making newcomers go to the ‘freshman’ locker room? Has entitlement been a problem at Nebraska?
  • What was the vibe about Nebraska from the other national media members and coaches?

More conversation about Black Friday at B1G Media Days, about Nebraska/Iowa…do Husker fans believe they’ll begin dominating Iowa because of Frost or will it still be back-and-forth?

  • Let’s face it…Nebraska fans have been beaten down by bad years, but all of a sudden their egos are through the roof because of Scott Frost’s return. But let’s keep the ego out of it (if possible) for a second and think about this; will this rivalry always be back-and-forth, or will Frost make a massive deal about the Iowa game and make sure they rarely ever lose it again, and also rarely lose players from the state to them?

Let’s do a 180 on Scott Frost right now —while Nebraska fans love his brash comments, does what he’s saying give the Huskers a big target on their backs?

  • Frost is adamant about how if you want to get Nebraska, get them now because you won’t get them coming up in the years to follow. Some people might like their coach to be laid back, but Frost is not that way at all. Is there any negative to what he’s saying in such bold ways?
  • Frost told USA Today’s Paul Myerberg that the culture previously was ‘awful,’ and that guys were out of shape and weren’t pushed at all. These feel like true statements obviously, but does the rest of the B1G say, ‘screw this guy, let’s kick their asses this year’?

Happer and Stephens (Sipple in for Tom) 7/20 – 12pm

  • The Big Ten preseason media poll is out
    • Where did Nebraska come in?
    • Sipple and Happer disagree on the potential of a certain Big Ten West foe this year
  • Sean Callahan (HuskerOnline.com)

Are highly-ranked recruiting classes more important to a team’s success more than ever before?

  • Sip has brought up good points recently that the trend of college football is that National Champions are always highly-ranked recruiting classes and typically in the south
  • The B1G is certainly getting better with recruiting and is getting several teams in the top 10 over the past few years…is Nebraska always bound to be an outlier? Can a team like Wisconsin and Nebraska win a National Championship in today’s college football? Wisconsin is always a good team that gets close, nut is not quite there when it comes to the absolute best of the best of college football
