October 18th: A visit to the Mailbag for the first time in ‘Early Break’ history

-Emails from Jeff, Chris, David, and Mark on Husker football

-Also, Yankees tie up ALCS with Astros, and Dodgers/Cubs Game 3

October 18th: Sean Callahan (Husker Online) / Shut Up Sipple

-Thoughts on Bill Moos hire…will Nebraska bother giving Riley a chance after season or move on quickly?

-Why is Purdue showing so much improvement in just 6 games in tenure of a new coach, and Nebraska appears to be floundering?

October 18th: The Football Power Index has Nebraska favored to win ZERO games the rest of the year….will they respond with better football following the bye, or more of the same…or worse?

-In fact, ESPN lists Nebraska as essentially the same percentage chance to win for Penn State as it is for their games against Rutgers and Maryland; 98.2% for Rutgers; 96.8% for NEB; and 94.0% at MD

-Huskers’ best chance to win is against Northwestern, with just a 38.9% chance to win….ouch. Vegas looks pretty damn smart right now with their initial line for Nebraska wins at 5.5….yikes

-Will they come back playing inspired football after the bye week or end with a thud?

October 18th: The Cavs’ biggest challenger took a massive step back in the first game of the season

-What is almost sure to be the Conference Championship series match-up resulted in a Cleveland 102-99 victory last night….but it was the gruesome injury to Gordon Hayward that was the story of the game; a dislocated ankle and fractured tibia that looked so much worse than that; possibly out for season

October 18th: Nebrasketball picked 13th in preseason B1G media poll…are they going to pull another surprise run like 2013-14?

-It seems like it would be less surprising this year if they made a run, considering its their most talented team in a long time, if not ever (in the history of recruiting star rankings, at least)

-Is this an example of the media not doing enough research on Nebraska, or just saying ‘prove it’ and that the talent means nothing if coaching isn’t good enough? Some still think Craig Smith was the mastermind of the operation in Nebraska’s successful times…might be right
