September 5th: Have your expectations for J.D. Spielman been elevated after his excellent first game?

-The kid’s first career college touch was a kickoff return TD—just like Ameer Abdullah—and although he only had 2 catches, one of those was a tremendous grab on an important 3rd and 5 down

-Also—3 catches for Tyler Hoppes and other targets on top of that….what number of catches can he get to this year?

September 5th: Where did THAT come from, Tre Bryant? Maybe Nebraska does have a feature RB…./Shut Up Sipple

-Even Mike Riley seemed surprised at what Bryant was able to do on 31 carries, 192 yds, and 1 TD…the most carries he’s had in ANY level (yes, even high school)….was that just bad defense from Ark St, or a potentially solid unit and workhorse RB in Bryant (who still has some wear and tear issues)???

September 5th: Bob Diaco speaks…finally…about Huskers defensive performance on Saturday….is there any way to stop the Ducks?

-You can point to inexperience and first games for many against Arkansas State—no problem with that excuse at all. However, Oregon wants revenge from last year’s loss and scored 77 points against Southern Utah on Saturday. GULP! And… went from a 6.5 Oregon favorite on Sunday morning to 14 point favorite midday Monday. Whoa…

-Arkansas State didn’t really get a run game going, because they didn’t have to—they found success through the air with 68 (!!!) pass attempts….Oregon is capable of both passing and running. Do you believe Nebraska will be able to slow at least one of the units down at all?

September 5th: The B1G West might not be too bad this year, if Week 1 showed anything…

-Despite poor offense in the first half, Iowa’s defense was phenomenal all game in shutting down Wyoming, 24-3—-Wisconsin looked good; Northwestern finished strong after poor start; and Purdue scared Louisville…hmmmm—and good job for Michigan in the East for beating a ranked Florida team

September 5th: Did Tanner Lee live up to the hype in Game 1, and if not—do you see reasons to believe he will be very good when all is said and done?

-Lee had pretty solid stats; 19-32 passing for 238 yds; 2 TDs; 0 INTs. Not a bad debut, especially since the RBs—ahem, Tre Bryant—did their part to not have to make him throw 68 times like Ark St did

-The TD throw to Morgan and the fade throw to Spielman on 3rd and 5 were simply spectacular. Did he miss some throws? Sure. Wasn’t perfect. But he was pretty dang good. And got up after getting hit!
